Create A Fun and Easy Instant Patio

So, a luxury deck or patio is out of your price range. But you’re already anticipating the upcoming backyard BBQ season. What to do? Go low tech, of course!
The first step to transforming your backyard is to create a stable surface for dancing and general mingling. A fun and funky was to accomplish this is to get your hands on a piece of plywood at least a 1/2″ thick. It can be ratty looking as long as it is solid.
Now for the fun part… If you plan on reusing it, head to the hardware store and pick up some indoor/outdoor carpet. It’s cheap and comes in a variety of colors. Less durable but more memorable is fake “fun fur” at the fabric store. In either case, make sure that the material is about 4″ wider and longer than the plywood.
Now lay out the fabric the good side down. Place the plywood on top, centering it on the material. Whip out a staple gun then staple one long side. Go around to the other side and tug on the material firmly to get rid of any loose spots.
Staple in the middle of this side to keep the fabric in place, then continue stapling. Finish by stapling the short ends, paying extra attention to the corners. Think wrapping a package. It can look bad underneath as long as it is smooth on top.
Now flip your board over and move it to where it will be at the party. Test it out. If the ground is uneven, you’ll need to stabilize it with something under the lower side. Ideally, a couple bricks would be great. Test again till you’re happy with it.
Viola! Easy, fun and not the same old, same old. Twister, anybody?
